The Skin Cancer Foundation of South Africa is an Independent Non-Profit Organisation dedicated to create awareness, education, prevention, and treatment of Skin Cancer.
Dr Roscher, CEO of the Skin Cancer Foundation of South Africa, says:
“The fight against Skin Cancer and its devastating effects on patients and families has entered a new phase. Early detection remains essential for high cure rates of all forms of skin cancer, and new screening and mapping devices and techniques have enhanced the dermatology screening process.
In addition, new surgical techniques like Mohs Micrographic Surgery, and other definitive interventions, are now available in most regions in South Africa- to swiftly and effectively deal with Skin Cancer.
For the advanced diseases of Skin Cancer, new Biologics Therapies, provide hope and potential for complete resolution from metastatic or inoperable disease. These scenarios have not been available before to terminal skin cancer patients – so “cures for cancer” really are on the horizon.
Some forms of skin cancer – melanoma specifically – are gram for gram perhaps the most deadly form of any type of cancer.” Dr Roscher went on to say.
“Your dermatologist is your best choice for early and correct diagnosis and definitive treatment. Protect Your Skin and Use a Sunscreen Every Day! Don’t delay your visit if you suspect a lesion of potentially being dangerous. ” Says Gayle Thorne , COO of the Skin Cancer Foundation.

Shivani Naidoo, Skincare Consultant for the SKIN CANCER FOUNDATION noted “The starting point of Skin Cancer and Photodamage of the skin, stems from repeated sunburns”. Regular use of SPF-containing products (including anti-oxidant serums) and physical measures such as hats, sunglasses, and rash vests, all help in the fight against sun-induced damage to the skin.”
Very little attention is also paid to damage to the skin of colour, which tends to darken after many sunburns. Ask your Dermatologist, Physician, or Pharmacist about the latest trends in skincare and skin health” she concluded.
The Skin Cancer Foundation of South Africa will be having a Free Skin Cancer Screening Initiative on the 1st of September 2022.
Look for a participating Dermatologist in your area, (www.skincancerfoundation.co.za) who will be taking part in this Screening Day. LIMITED free screenings are done, as a means of creating awareness.
CONDITIONS :
- Screening for skin cancer only – is performed with a view to educating and diagnosing patients.
- No other skin conditions (such as acne and eczema etc) will be assessed, and no mole mapping will be done.
