PRESS RELEASE (21 July .2016) – EDUCATIONAL SKIN CANCER EVENT AIMED AT THE MEDICAL FRATERNITY

Key speakers will provide a valuable skin cancer update on Wednesday, 27 July 2016during this much anticipated day event.Since the creation of the SKIN CANCER FOUNDATION OF SOUTH AFRICA (SCFSA) – in August 2013, under the patronages of the Dermatological Surgery Society of South Africa, in conjunction with dermatologists from the private and academic realm, as well as a variety of civil society groupings and charitable organisations, the awareness around skin cancer has greatly increased. The SCFSA is highly effective movement that is dedicated to the education of all South Africans on skin cancer and what measures each individual can personally take to avoid developing it.

The vision of the SCFSA is to work with all groups interested and active in this field (academic departments, government, private healthcare practitioners, Xeroderma Pigmentosum Society, Albinism Society, research workers and more ), to raise awareness of the public of skin cancer and its prevention.

In keeping with this vision, an educational skin cancer event aimed at the medical fraternity is being held on Wednesday, 27 July from 8h30am to 5pm. The press attending this event will be able to receive free mole mapping as well as a Skinceuticals skin analysis.

The SCFSA had much success i n increasing skin cancer awareness in the last few years, by holding a National Skin Cancer Screening Day. On the 1 st of September each year, patients are screened free of charge by many South African Dermatologists. National coverage on radio and tv was achieved – with impactful awareness figures.“Skin cancer is by no means a disease of Caucasian skin only, and all South Africans should be knowledgeable on what they can personally do to avoid developing it advised Dr Odendaal – Dermatologist –Port Elizabeth SCFSA.

Educational events and courses such as this one will help to further the cause of this noble organisation.
